V1.2 Locking To/Unlocking From An ECU

WARNING:
Do not buy a locked unit. As a non-original owner you cannot purchase an additional license to have the unit unlocked.

Locking
Upon connecting to an ECU with an unregistered KTuner unit you will be asked to add the unit to the system. You must be on the internet to register the unit and also lock the unit to the ECU. Once you’ve registered the KTuner unit it will then prompt you to lock to the ECU. Please read the information carefully before you agree and proceed.

Unlocking
This can be unlocked in the event you are going to sell your KTuner unit by reverting to stock and going through the unlock process.

You must return to factory. This only has to be done one time. After returning to factory the unlock option will be available.

If it's not available simply reconnect to the unit with the software using the connect button. Upon connecting to a factory tuned vehicle the unlock option will be availble for 30 seconds if the ECU software is currently supported by KTuner.

Internet connectivity is required to unlock. Wait for the process to finish. Do not choose other options, like flashing, during the unlock process. You need to be connected to the vehicle with the key in full power on (Position 2), but engine not running.

Successful Unlock:

Unsuccessful Unlock:
If you get the message below then unlocking was not successful. Follow the directions to try again.

Verifying It's Unlocked
As the success message above states, the unit should be blinking blue.

If you disconnect the unit from the vehicle and then connect it to the software without the vehicle connected you should see the message below. If you're trying to sell the unit make sure to send them this message in a photo as proof the unit is unlocked.

If it instead asks you to lock to an ECU and you're not connected to a vehicle this means the unit is not unlocked.
