VSS

What's going on, anybody having any VSS issues or is it just me? Let me tell you my situation. I'm now turbo'd and I am running an altered base map and one thing I've notice is in KTUNER my "Gear" will jump randomly. Right? Randomly I said lol for example I'll be driving from 1-6 and in between shifts my gear will read 3/4 or 3/2 jumping back and forth. It doesn't do it often in 1/2 or 2/3 but from 3 and up it'll do it..

My gear ratios is also swapped with a Base trans with the added TSX 6th. The thing is it never did it before even when I swapped gears in my NSN4 case (05/06). I've checked for grounds, wire burs, to even maybe the connecter hasn't seated in all the way. I'm in a stump because my tune is coming up this week. I'll need VSS/Gear to work properly because it's my ticket to boost by gear. Can't have it acting up when I'm trying to build boost and my my car jumps. Also, VSS assumes which gear the car's in right?

I'll start by switching sensors out first and go from there, any input is greatly appreciated. Also I read 5-6MPH more. I know there's an option to correct MPH, I left it alone in hopes of my tuner work his magic. Any feed back on that is appreciated as well because I wouldn't mind doing it myself. Thanks in advance

Gear is calculated in the ECU by RPM and speed, so during a shift it may jump around. Your RPM does not match what it would be normally while you're not in gear.

Hm, it never did that before. Is there a way to make engine RPM read normal then?

It would have. It's always been calculated this way, as factory code. It also depends how you shift. Where you keep the RPM during the shift, etc. RPM is the engine RPM, so I don't know what you mean to make it read normal.

Alright, so I looked at my VSS and the magnetic lead is a bit scuffed up from the gear. I'm pretty sure that's the problem, I've ordered a new one from parts store so I'll see how it goes tomorrow when I get it in.

My guess is the scuff marks on my VSS may have something to do with the jumping

If the VSS value is jumping around it could be that. You said the gear value was jumping around and that has been explained.

I scuffed up my new one too and it even shorted my car. I think the harness is connected to it that makes it a ground and when it touched my gear it shut down on me

I spaced it away and it does the same thing as before.

I'll look into what you said about my RPM not registering to the gear selected

Update* it appears my Base gears that's in my case is the culprid as I'm suppose to put in gear thershold. I was told this via phone of KT. Luckily for us he'll make an update in the distant future for guys like us swapping gears :P

My buddy of a similar setup told me he had to do the same thing because he has Gear X 3-4 and his tuner told him to do what I just stated. He has KPRO, glad it's not my VSS, well wish me luck tomorrow's tune!
